Our annual trip to Europe will be 5 - 17 May 2005 and we will be staying at the Edelweiss Hotel, Garmisch 5 - 6 May. Was thinking of meeting with anyone that might be in GAP during that time. Post a reply to this letter and maybe we could “tip a few”. JIM

SUE: Sorry but after we leave GAP we plan to travel to Chiemsee (for one last look) then up to Passau. From there we will head for Ramstein AFB where we will spend the night. After that we head for St Michel and the Normandy coast. Will you be at the F-1 again this year? JIM

Hi Jim, Sorry that we'll miss you. have a good time in Garmisch. No we won't make the F1 this year unfortunately, though as we have really good seats ( let me know if you know anyone who wants tickets) but it's just a bit far & too hot in June, anyway we have tickets for Silverstone. We will be renewing our tickets though (don't want to lose the seats) so maybe next year. Sue

On the 4th of May we flew from Indianapolis to Philly and then on to Munich, Germany. We arrived on Thursday morning just before noon, picked-up our rental car at Avis and drove to Garmisch where we stayed in the new Edelweiss Lodge.
Since we only scheduled one night at the lodge we tried to make best do, despite the cold drizzle outside. The mountains were covered with clouds and it was just a bit cool. Inside you are greeted with a really "cool" front desk. On the stone wall behind the front desk the words Edelweiss Lodge is inscribed. Water cascades down over the wall.
In the middle of this lobby is a large fireplace, which really gives you a warm and welcome, feeling. Many of the guests sit in rockers and chairs in front of the fireplace.
My wife found the slots and settled in for a few hours of fun while I wandered about the place with my camcorder. I spent a little time with our old friend from Berchtesgaden and Chiemsee. Some of you might remember Fritz Leitnor. He is the Head Barkeep in the Zuggy Bar. If any of you want to drop him an email his address is fk.Leitnor@t.online.de.
Spent a little time talking to the manager and enjoyed talking about the good old days. I left a copy of my video (A TIME OF REMEMBERANCE) with him for the ski patrol and anyone else working with AFRC to watch. The facility is nice, but a bit high priced when you compare it to the old days. If one were to stay in GAP more than a couple of days I would recomment the DJH - Die Jugendherbergen. Here you can stay in a family type room. The one thing is that in Bavaria to stay you must have a child or children with you. Once we left GAP we headed for France to visit some of the places we missed over the years. The highlight of our trip was when we arrived at Le Mont-St-Michel. There is something magical about this Abby. Like a giant magnet it pulls you back. To walk the causeway is something but when you return to town you look back many times. The sight is something to behold. Well, we are back home now and resting up for our next venture to Las Vegas. It is there we are going to meet with a few of the RAIDERS on Sunday 12 June at the HOFBRAUHAUS. Hope to see some of you there. They have a STAMTISCH for us and we will meet at noon. JIM
