It was on this date that my wife and I were married in Ulm.   It was a beautiful sunny day and the trees were turning color.  We left for our honeymoon in Berchtesgaden that afternoon.   It was here that we both fell not only deeper in love with each other but the area as well.  A dream came true when I was offered the job as Senior Enlisted Advisor for the BRA.

After all these years we still love each other and have never lost the love of Berchtesgaden.   God willing we plan to return there for our 40th Anniversary in 2010.

Congratulations, that many years togeather, and still in love in truly a blessed event.

It was Aug 12 in Salzburg 1970, that I met my wife to be (Sue). She gave me a ride back to Strub Kasern that day. We dated through out the summer and fall and then got engaged that Christmas 1970 in Garmisch at the International Bar and Grill. We were married in March of 1972 in her home town of Rupolding, about 40 K's outside of B -Gaden. Just take the Alpine highway and you will run into Rupolding. She and I spent half our Honeymoon at the B- Hof Hotel and the other half at the Von Stuben in Garmisch. It has now been 34 years + and we have two grown childern. A Son, 32 years old and a Daughter who will  turn 30 years old in Nov. We also have two grand daughters. Five years and Three years old. The best thing that ever happened to me, that summer, that year, 1970, as a life guard for AFRC, was when I met Sue, my wife, on the way up to the Castle in Salzburg. She has stayed by my side through out my Army career and my Civil Service career. As we approch our retirement in a few years, I'm sure she will be by my side untill the final days. This is the reason the Summer of 1970, Berchtesgaden, and the pool at the Hof are so special to me. If not for her and that summer I have no idea how I would have turned out. God Bless 1970.

Dear Jim and Inara,

Congratulations on your anniversary.  Can't imagine a finer place to have celebrated  your Honeymoon.

I, for one, consider my time in Berchetesgaden in 74/75 to be the most memorable stretch of time in my life.

Auf Weidersehen.

Congradulations Jim and Inara

On October 17, 1962 I arrived in Berchtesgaden as a Military Police Officer with the 508th from Munich, I was confused and worried about leaving Munich and all the excitment of the big city, however it didn't take very long to fall in love with Bgaden and the people and friends I meet there, what a time I had until August of 1963 when I rotated back home to Denver Colorado.  My close friend David Oliver is currently in Berchtesgaden this very hour and he has told me it is far from what it used to be, what a shame.

Oh what a lucky man......I was in Chiemsee for two years and I remember all the days like yesterday (I kept a journal and thus havent forgotten a lot). Times were different as were we soldiers. I too met my wife there but we had to return to the States to get married due to her parents pressure,etc....otherwise we had planned to stay there the rest of our lives....Unfortunately we divorced after twelve years but remain in touch due to our two children.....I took both kids to Chiemsee last year. Why it took so long ?? I had been back many times by myself and with my second wife.....what a great time it was to drive around the area and tell the stories they have heard many times but without the point of reference.....

I wish you luck on the return in 2010.
