Just got back from GAP last week. Stayed at the Edelweiss and enjoyed every second.
Stopped in GAP after a trip through central and western France. Visited Lourdes and the new (Worlds Tallest Bridge) bridge in Millau, France. Really worth the visit if you are in the area.

Down to the Rivera and over to Vicenza where Inara and I stayed with one of my customers and a good friend Beppe Civarelli. After that we headed north to Garmisch. Were stopped just short of the Brenner due to weather. What a change.........from 70's in Italy to cold winds in northern Italy. Early the next morning we headed towards GAP. Speed on the Autobahn did not exceed 40 km (25 mph). At the German fronter the roads were covered with snow. By the time we arrived at the Edelweiss there was about five inches on the ground.
During the weekend 90 cm were dropped on the Zugspitz. I heard they were “packing” in order to get a good base.
Sunday night I sat in the loft lookoug out the big window at the snow falling. It was beautiful and really brought back memories of the “good-ol-days”.
Monday Inara and I walked downtown. The fresh air, snow and cool air reminded me of those days in the 70's when we lived in Berchtesgaden. We passed the old General Patton, which sits empty like the Hof. Seems the German's don't know what to do with this building. Bet a schnitzle it will go the way of the Hof. What a shame.
Tuesday we had a slick drive up to Munich and the airport. My God.......traffic in Munich is as bad as LA. or NYC And to think back on my first trip to Chiemsee in 1959 in my Pontiac. Between Stuttgart and Munich I maybe passed three cars. Munich had only one stop and go light back then. Munich to Chiemsee I don't remember passing any cars. Oh yah, Major Key was the OIC at Chiemsee. Anyone remember him?
Plan to spend a week next summer at the Edelweiss. Taking my daughter, son-inlaw and our grand daughter to visit Berchtesgaden, Munich, Chiemsee and Garmisch. Looking forward to that visit.
