Just got back after three weeks in Europe.  Visited both Chiemsee and Berchtesgaden.

Lots of weeds and nothing else at Chiemsee.  Spoke to security and they said it was still for sale.  Asking price - a cool 14 million Euro.  Several lookers but no takers.  Seems it is not located in the best place and too far from Munich to be worth the money.

As to Berchtesgaden......well, what more can be said.  Really sad.  You all know about the Walker.  Now the Skyline room is a run-down interior of a “barn-style“ cafe.  They want to charge you to use the toilet.

The old headquarters at the Stanggass has not changed much.  Now everything is being used as apartments.  Even someone has moved into the school house.

As to the Skytop......well as reported earlier, the hotel portion no longer exists.

At least the wife and I had a good time in Munich.  They are celebrating their 850th birthday.

Oh yah.....my 2 year old grand daughter is also having a good time.  Some day she might be a RAIDER.

GAP still rocks.  The view from the Edelweiss is really great.  Can you believe, snow on the Zugspitz in mid-July.

Enjoy

I sent the pictures to Mark and they will be posted in the Photo Gallery as soon as he has time to load them.

Sorry about the posting “washing” the photos.  They were there for a few hours and then they went away.

Mac;

That was a good year... ! I was there two years ago (2005) and the building was still there. I remember the stairway very well.

In case anyone has not heard the Chiemsee Lake hotel and the Park have been sold, the Lake Hotel will be a luxury hotel and the Park will be a Motel.  The Germinde are taking over the dock area.

I would be courious what the hotel and park house sold for? I know they were saying something like 50 million Euros... which is damn near $75,000,000.- million

I say lets kidnap the “Prien“ Burgermeister and demand they pay for one reunion !! What a joke, the American Taxpayer got ripped off again.

Hello Jim,
It sounds like you had a great trip. Do you know if the Ski Patrol quarters in GAP are still there? It was a building in Sheridan Barracks adjacent to the Russian School. I was there the winter of 73-74. Best regards,
Marc Gibson

Those were difinately some great years.  Everybody ought to get out the photo albums, get em scanned and to the Webmaster so they can be posted to the Photo Gallery.  More tests for the lack of synoptic response.
