Hi Mike! I surely remember Bill diving off the the platform and always getting cheers from the ladies. He always made it known when he was about to jump and enjoyed the attention. Pat I think was clean shaven and did not have a moustache..but heck, that's so long ago and I was a little girl then. Are you still in touch w/them? I'm certain we met if you spent time at the pool. What a great assignment to be playing tennis w/the General's daughter or being a life guard. Jutta

Jutta, How old were you in 1973? Was your Dad or Mom an officer or a civilan working at the Hof.? I was 22 years old at the time and 1973 and 1974 were the two best years of my life. Unfortunately, I have never been able to hook-up with Pat Neal or Bill Grodevant. I am sure I would remember you from the pool. Grodevant was like an olympic diver, doing 2-1/2 flips and all kinds of reverse dives. My speciality was cannonballs and canopeners. Although I could do a 1-1/2 flip on that platform at the B-Hof.. The only guy from B-Gaden that I stayed in contact with is John Gervais, who worked for Sgt. Wojtal on permanent assignment. John like me leaves here in Florida. Regards, Mike Glass

Hi Mike! I was 12 in 73 (unofficially I was only 2, lol). My Dad, Harry Schuster, was the Asst. Mgr at the Hof and my Mom, Anneliese, worked in the Gift Shop. Too bad you don't have contact w/your friends anymore. I am certain they would like reminisce. I live in Omaha now and have been for the past 12 yrs but am still homesick for Berchtesgaden, although now that the Hof is gone it's become less of a “Heimat” for me. Jutta

I was with the water patrol and ski patrol in the summer of 1973 and the winter of 1974. I have so many good memories of the Hof. However, my favorite was singing onstage with the Johnny Alone Trio. I had such awesome times doing bad renditions of songs, but the band made us sound good. The diving platform at the pool was also really cool. I am really fortunate because I got back to B-gaden this past June (after 32 years) and was able to show my2 kids(19 &21) where I used to hang out in the military. They could not beleive how beautiful B-gaden is. However, it was sad to see the HOF abandoned and fenced off , but I least got to see her prior to her demise.

So, Joe, you were the famous scorcher...now I know. Ninon (Vogt) and I would sneak in the dining room sometimes and have bets who could find the table w/the most chewing gum on the bottom side. I think once we counted over 30. For my own record I was in the habit of putting my gum on the back of the huge oil painting in the hall way of the mezzanine, to keep track when I came home a little too drunk...I can't believe I'm sharing this, lol..there were lots of them! When we were kids we made a card board sign that the little fountain on the way over to the McNair was a 'wishing well'. People actually tossed coins and at night, Ninon and I would empty it and buy candy w/the loot. Or one mother's day, we snuck out early and cut down huge amounts of tulips.. at the time there were 2 gardeners and they complained to my Dad the next day about some guests stealing the flowers...endless memories....the waiters collecting unfinished filet steaks, gave them to my dad to feed to our dog..he was so spoiled (the dog, not my dad,lol) he wouldn't even look at regular dog food. Loved your Stormin' Norman story..wow..keep them coming. Jutta

I just received an email from Berchtesgaden regarding the Berchtesgadener Hof Hotel. Yes, its true that its being torn down by the “Bavarian Government” and is being replaced with “A House of Nature” (some kind of museum for nature lovers) according to my friend and scource in Berchtesgaden. To bad, because in its heyday it was a grand Hotel, before, during and after the war. I recall during the 1950's & 1960's it was a field grade officers hotel and required a coat and tie to get in. Very upscale with a great menu and nice rooms. Later in the 1970's I went back for a visit and it was open to all grades and no dress codes. From there it was all down hill until it closed from what I could see.
