How can anyone forget Kiwi? She was the one who had a kind word for all and always carried a genuine smile on her face. She obviously enjoyed life and took advantage of all that it offered her. I knew Kiwi in Garmisch for a mere three years but I will never forget her and will, in my heart, always carry a piece of Kiwi with me. There is no understanding why she died so young except that God has other plans for her. Nigel, Sam, Ben and family my thoughts and prayers are with you. Kiwi died young but in the short time that she was with us I would wager that she lived more fully then others live in 90 years. Janet Stodter, Garmisch 1986-1989

A really nice and loveable person, and one of those of whom one could justly say, that they were a pleasure to have known. She will be remembered fondly by many. Pete Day

How much we always enjoyed her friendship and how sincerely we mourn her passing! We will always remember, and appreciate, her humor, her good common sense, her tolerance and her enthusiasm.  We hope she knew how much she was loved by family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with Nigel, Sam and Ben............................

We're very sorry to hear this.  Have only really nice memories, and when I picture Kiwi, I see her hugely beaming smile and ringing laughter.  Such a fun person!  My heart goes out to Nigel and the boys.

Sue

I am so sorry to hear about Kiwi. I can't think of a nicer person that I've met in my life. She was such a sweetheart! Another reminder of how short life can be and that we need to live it to the fullest. The world is certainly a better place because of Kiwi touching it. My thoughts are with Nigel and the boys.

*********MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR KIWI BACON***********

Good day,

It’s my sad duty to inform you all, “Kiwi” (Veronica Bacon) passed away last Saturday, losing her 4 year battle against breast cancer.  She was 44 years old.  Kiwi was employed by AFRC during the 80’s & 90’s and was the former Travel Camp Manager here in Garmisch.  She is survived by her husband Nigel and her two sons Sam (14 years) and Ben (8 years).  Her funeral will be this coming Thursday in her home town of Auckland, New Zealand.

A memorial service will be arranged for friends here in Garmisch shortly.  Details later this week.

Cards of condolence may be sent to Lynne Cowlam at the Hausberg Lodge, who will also be preparing a book of condolences for signing.

Lynne is also arranging for flowers to be sent on behalf of her friends in Garmisch.

Hi Sue,
Lynne called me Saturday about Kiwi. I remember when you first called about her condition and how I assumed she would get better. Definitely a big hole in my heart. Will send a card to Nigel and family in NZ. Take care and will contact you when I'm down in GAP. Hello to everyone for me. Take care, dawn-dawn

Hey Kiwi. Whenever I think of the campground I think of you—happy, tolerant, grounded, a truly beautiful person. I can remember all-too frequently running from the Pizza Place to the campground store for some last-minute items and you calmly and quietly fulfilling my needs, even though I wasn’t allowed to shop there.
I’m sad not to have managed a trip to NZ to see you in your home, although it’s not difficult to conjure an image of you with Nigel and the boys. Jesus, who’s going to keep Nigel in line now?
You will live in my memory, Kiwi, as people only die when we forget them, and we will never forget you.

We are so very sad to hear the news about Kiwi. After we left Garmisch in 1985 we returned to the campground every year until 1996. Kiwi was always there with a smile. She will be missed by all and our heartfelt condolences go to Nigel and the boys. Frank & Mary Romary

My sincerest condolences to Nigel and the Boys. Kiwi was one of the first people I met when I arrived in Garmish. Her friendship and smile have never been forgotten. Noch ein Beer for Kiwi!

Kiwi (Veronika) Bacon passed away after her long battle right to the end.   I know we all are thinking of Nigel and their two boys.  Over in Garmisch we are all going over fond memories and trying to take it in that some one so full of zest can be taken so young.  I am so glad I got to talk to her one last time in the New Year.
