A longtime entertainment director of a Garmisch, Germany, military nightclub died this month.

Terese Rudolph died due to complications from a heart attack. She was 92.

She took over the position at the Army’s swank Casa Carioca club in 1949 and worked with the Army until she left Europe in 1971.

Rudolph spent her final years in Los Angeles, but she spent much of her life abroad. At 17, she became a ballerina with the Chicago Civic Opera Company.

During World War II, she traveled with the United Service Organizations, and was in Paris when the city was formally liberated. She applied for the entertainment director position in Garmisch at the urging of her brother. The club had an ice rink and hosted ice shows; Rudolph wound up using her skills as a dancer to advise skaters, even though she didn’t skate herself.

Rudolph’s skaters would go on to star in shows such as the Ice Capades, Ice Follies and Holiday on Ice.

Hi, I am sorry to hear about Teri's death, I went often to the Casa carioca since my girlfriend at that time, Maureen worked there as a waitress.. There was also a guy from Garmisch who had just driven back from Afghanistan in a VW bus, he was a waiter too. I was in Garmisch when the huge scandal broke that phantom employees had been supposedly working there for 15 years or so & the major in charge & one of the heads of the Casa Carioca fled & were later apprehended in Switzerland. Anyway the amazing thing was the day after the story broke the C.C. burnt to the ground taking with it all the records! I went down there to see the damage & the ruins were surrounded by machine gun toting German Polizei, & we thought, “A bit late for that”. Nice woman Frau Rudolph, & I remember some of the skaters, there was wee Jimmy from Paisley, Scotland who had met his wife who was also a skater when they were with Holiday on Ice, & settled in Garmisch. I guess the Alpspitz Wellenbad is where the C.C was.

RIP,

Andy (Drew) Failes.
