Hello Deb, Glad you checked out the book,  I thought it was a good read, and really gave an insight into that era, and the why and way of peoples thoughts.  You and I and many other's were lucky enough to have been able to connect with many of the germans that were still young enough to talk with, and others that went through that time from the “enemy” side of the coin.  I got to know a fellow by the name of Artur Rolfe, who was involved in ever Fallschirmjäger  “Parachute” jump the Wehrmacht did during WWII.  He was eventually captured and ended up in a POW Camp at Ft.Meade MD.  They had him working as POW Labor at the continental Can company in Baltimore,  My Uncle was his “Boss“  and “Artur” and  my uncles family became friends,  Seems that, the POW's were given parole and allowed to visit with people and even family here in the states.  So, when I was on levy to Germany, my aunt and uncle contacted Artur and I met him when I got to the repple depple at Stutgart.  Since I was a 82nd ABN trooper we had a lot in common and I was able to get a prespective of the Nazi era from someone whom really was a believer.  Artur was in the HJ “Hitler Judgen” and to become a Paratrooper he had to demonstrate a fevor for the “priciples of national socialism” beyond that of a regular asphalt soldier.  His stories of the events that he was a part of, from Denmark and Norway to Crete, to the holding operation he was captured at in Italy were fasinating.

I'm going to check out the book Peter Day; “Dinerouk” recommended. I hope it's at this library.

I don't think I'm going to be able to make the Baniff Canada reunion.  Problems with selling the house and what not.

Haven't heard from anyone about the “OST COAST“ yet.  I trust you guys had a great “OST COAST” reunion.  Hated missing that, but I have to admit, I had a great time hosting the Irish Music session in Winchester VA that weekend.  Played a ton of music, and sang till my throat was raw.  Had a bunch of folks show up for it,  All in all, a great success.  I was hoping to change the JAM next year to later in Aug but every one that came wants to do it early in AUG.  So, I hope I can make the next “OST COAST” but it would help if it was later in the month.  Hope you all are doing grea!  SPATER!!

Book to read that involves Bavaria, Garmisch and other villages in the area, is 'Nazi Gold' by Ian Sayer & Douglas Botting. Pub in 1984

It's very convoluted but fascinating: ISBN 0-586-05594-0

Hi Mac, I read it a few weeks ago and passed it on to Kit - pretty fascinating to read about Hitler era B'gaden vs. the B'gaden we knew.  Thanks for the recommendation!

Just finished this book “On Hitlers Mountain”  by Imrgard Albine Hunt,

About a young girl raised in  B-Garten during Third Reich rise to power.  Good Read.  Check it out.  Tried to post the info to the book section but I don't think it worked.  Thus, this message.
