I recall no avalanche control on the Jenner, there were several dangerous avalanche areas. One crossed the upper catwalk. The other was the spinnigraben a steep avalanche chute.

Management would close certain areas when avalanche danger was extreme or to clear away avalanche detritus on trails.

Particularly when the Carlyle group made hundreds of millions on the CRUSADER canon . A huge mobile siege gun so big and heavy it couldn't be airlifted! Great planning.

As if the war in Iraq wasn't bizarre enough. I read in an editorial of THE SANTA FE NEW MEXICAN newspaper today that the army notified ski areas around Mammoth Lakes that they must return five avalanche control howitzers because the army is running short of money and materiel.

I hope this is not a trend as it could be a nightmare for the ski patrol in the Sierra Nevadas, Cascades, and Rockys Mts. keeping ski areas avalanche free.
