Thanks Bob, I'm curious about your comment about the Hof. I heard that it had been pretty much abandoned.

Drop a note to the follwing person at the International Luge Federation Headquarters and ask her about Gasttaus's & Pensions in B-Garden. She's the Executive Secretary to the Executive Director of our Federation. Marie-Claude Staudinger. Her email address is: Staudinger@Fil-luge.org. Tell her you spoke to me and I'm sure she will respond. The old HOF is being utilized for something other than a hotel according to my friends in Berchtesgaden????

Our Congress was great and the new Intercontential Hotel/Resort is out of this world. You must visit while there. The German Bob & Luge Federation hosted a dinner for us at the Eagle's Nest. Great food and Bavarian music. Fun trip overall. Spent four days in Garmisch also at the Garmischer Hof & the new American Forces Lodge. First class.

Good luck and enjoy yourself.

Its possible that you are correct as I'm going by what our driver told us? Ask Marie-Claude Staudenger at the email address that I gave you at the FIl Office. She for sure would know. Or I can do it for you, whichever you like? Lots of construction in B-Garden around the Bahnhof, other wise, not much change except a lot of people during the day as with Garmisch, but in the evenings its very quite at both locations.

I plan to be in B-Garden this month for our annual Congress at the InterContinental Resort. This Hotel & Resort as you may know was built where the General Walker Hotel was located. Will ask some of our people from our International Luge Federation who's Headquarters is in Berchtesgaden if they can help you with some nice B&B. I'm a member of this Federation.

I'm spending a few days in Garmisch as well going and coming from Munich to B-Garden and will be splitting my time between the Garmischer Hof Hotel and the Military Hotel Edelwise. I was stationed in Garmisch for eight years between 1952- 1965 (two tours). Good luck on your journey.

If its been as long as you say since you were last in that area you have a suprise coming. Things are very expensive as you might amagine and the exchange rate for dollars verses euro's is very lousy. Anyway, good luck.

Great time of the year and the time I usually travel to the same locations. Send me an email and I'll send you some information on places I like. Inexpensive and cool seems to capture to mood of the time we were there.  rtthorn@hotmail.com Chiemsee 68.

There are many in the area of Berchtesgaden and you have to look for the very best prices.  If you can stay a few days, the Fereienwohnungen are a bargain.  Here is a website in the Maria Gern area, not far from B'gaden.  http://www.maria-gern.com/

I was on the Water Patrol in the summer of 1963 and am now addicted to returning to B'gaden every few years to take the trip down memory lane.  Many changes there, but the people are always nice and the scenery as you know, is breathtaking.  If you would like some more of other places to stay, try Bavaria Ben's his website  is: http://bensbauernhof.com/   David /San Antonio/
