Hi Everyone, I worked on the ski lifts in 1976 & 1977 first on the Kreuzeck, which was pretty awful except for the fact that Wee Georgie worked there, but still better than Deutsche Asphalt,  & secondly for the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn on the Osterfelder & Zugspitze, with Michel, & Herr Rieger. I was the only “Auslander” although the other workers claimed Eberhardt was an Auslander because he was from Frankfurt. Are there auslander there now? How is the skiing? What does it cost, anyone know? Anyone else worked there?. looking forward to skiing soon in the Berkshires which is 20 minutes from my house. Anyone in the area? I live in the hills on 40 acres & spend a couple of months a year in Nepal & Tibet, buying goods for my website at www.potalaworld.com  Come visit,

Drew (Andy) Failes.

I also worked on the Osterfelder that same winter.  Here's the scoop.

My job title was Adventure Trainer, and I worked for AFRC Monday-Friday on the Hausberg.  I had a season pass for the area.  In order to ski the Osterfelder, however, I had to volunteer to patrol it and could only do so on the weekends, when I was free and one of the permanent patrollers wanted a day off.

One of our responsibilities, when we patrolled the Osterfelder, was to give the German lift operators on the upper T bar a break for lunch.  So, that meant I had to “pull T's” on the upper T bar for about 30 minutes each day I skied there that winter of 76-77.

I always found myself going the extra mile whenever a good-looking ski suit stepped into the head of the lift line.  It was then that I would use extra care to ensure the “T” didn't “snap” into place and discomfort the rider.

Eberhardt is still there, amzing, in fact I remember him once drinking 20 beers & 20 schnapps in the Rosenstuberl & dissuading him from driving home! Say hello to him from me.

I just wanted to say, you know that big farmhouse at the top of the American ski lift on the Hausberg? Thats where I lived with Rachel, & it meant I could ski from the Osterfelder to my door.

Hi, Well maybe I know you, I used to often have a puff & a beer with the ski patrol who would come down to the bottom lift where I sometimes worked,  which was that steep lift on the way to the Kreuzeck. That lift joined on to the one above & since it was a Tbar it was quite tricky for novices. I am trying to think of the other Germans, there was Bernie who was mad, & his brother who was less mad, both fabulous skiers,  Michel who ended up emigrating to the US, & was Riegers nephew. I cant remember the ski patrol, I remember Bob Hood  & the patrol doing flips which I believe was the first time any Germans had seen such gymnastics, I just remember that the patrol were all great skiers, & liked to get high..
