In the past month here in Seattle we have had snow storms and ice and flooding rain storms, plus last weeks wind storm that still has hundreds of homes without power as well as I had a truck fire that prevented any snow party this year, yet it all makes me appreciate the days that go smoothly. The different storms remind me of storms that I experienced in the past, some that I experienced with some of you. It snowed here and then iced up. It seemed that just about everyplace but my street was a mess and I recalled how it would snow like clock work the winter of 80-81 in Berchtesgaden, provideing what seemed a foot of snow for just about every morning. The following winter it did a repeat and it made for about the perfect winter weather in one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen and I was fortunate enough to live there. It also reminded me of a time at Chiemsee when it snowed and I drove to work in my little Suzuki mini-van , yet some management (GRIN) that had 4wheel drive SUVs couldn't get to the hotel. I remembered the Ice Storm in Berchtesgaden where I fell skiing and did a head plant and stopped at that newly made hole, yet my body did a little spin. I was sure that I had broken of crippled some part but after carefully checking all the body parts for movement nothing was broken. As the house was shakeing so bad in last week's windstorm that I got up and went to the other end of the house. I remembered whenI was living with Mitzi, and Nick and Jackie were our housemates. a storm hit Chiemsee on thier anniversary. Mitzi rent to open the door and I heard a screem. The door slammed against her with such force that her foor was pinched and it took all four of us pushing against the door to get her foot free. During last week's storm the house shook so much and so constantly taht I thought for sure we were having an earthquake at the same time. Finaly I decided taht i might as well go back to bed. If the house was going to go, it would go, there was nothing I could do about it. I never lost power last week but almost everyone else did. Ours was a little pocket of power with almost everthing else dark. I remembered visiting Chiemsee after I had met John and Pam but I hadn't moved there yet. A dinner was going on with ample drinking as well, when the power went out. A German couple knocked at the door and told us they had forgotten to drop the mast on thier sail boat before leaving takng out the power lines. We got them to stay a while and once they were "tipsy" the bill they were facing for causing the power outage, didn't seem so bad. Remember how Germans might be legless and blind from drinking but they were only "tipsy" You and I might be knock-kneeed - kamode - hugging - drunk! But the German was only "tipsy" or at the most "very tipsy". Since I switched to unlimited local and long distance I have taken advantage of it and tried to reconnect by phone with a few the old friends from back then. "Lest old aquaintence be forgotten..." Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
