Just returned from a trip to Innsbruck for our annual Congress for the International Luge Federation and an extra week in Garmisch/Partenkirchen. Garmisch is still as beautiful as its always been except the former Military facilities that we all knew are just about gone. Patton, Von Stueben, PX/Commissary, Sports Center are just sitting there year after year with the locals or the Baverian Government not knowing or wanting to touch them. I had heard before I arrived this time that the Steuben was being utilized as a senior living center. Not true, just sitting there crumbling down like the others.
Sheridan Barracks still very lovely with the Marshall Center and the lovely Lodge Eidelweiss going strong.
Artillary Kasern still running strong with small PX & Commissary, Bank and other things that are needed to support the Britenau Housing area and the Marshall Center, Golf Course now run by Germans. Was advised that Hausberg Ski area was either turned over or would be this year. Former Green Arrow Inn (Abrams) is housing complex for employees for whats left of AFRC. Still Garmisch is still lovely and I always enjoy going back.
I spent eight years there from 1952 - 1957 & 1962 - 1965 part of the time single and later with wife (former Skater at the Casa) and daughters Becky & Nicola. Had a great time and a lot of great memories. Go back if you have a chance you won't regret it. Bob Cole, Sun Lakes, Arizona.
