I worked (hung out) up there for one summer in 1974.  I do not remember a functioning fountain but it seem like there might have been a statue or something down around the big dining room, perhaps in the hallway or inside the dining room - but it could have been Herr Lau.  Quite honestly, at that time I was burning short-term memory cells as quickly as they were either born or assimilating images.  Sorry I can't help.

I remember a fountain in the inner courtyard of the dining room ...without any statuary....just water and that was late 70's thru '90.

I sent a letter off to Renate Rauscher in Berchtesgaden yesterday.  This AM her message was that she didn't know but had passed the letter on to Linda Pfnuer (Lau).  Linda runs the Documentation Center on the Walker Hill.  Since her parents had been with the Walker since the end of WWII she might have the answer.

I'll pass this on just as soon as I get a reply.

When the Gen. Walker was the Platterhof (1940s), and sometime up into the early 1950s, there was a big fountain in the inner courtyard, called the Atlas Fountain. It is now in Bad Reichenhall. When was this fountain moved - was it before the Gen. Walker was opened in the 1950s, or when it was torn down in 2000? Does anyone who worked there or visited under AFRC remember this fountain?

Thanks,

Geoff Walden
