Mike Herr; spring skiing

Mike was a bit of a mad man on skis. He generally went big or didn't bother going. One day after the Evergreen lift had closed for the day, Mike turned around and pointed his skis back down the lift line and skied straight down. He somehow missed the wooden barriers at the bottom loading station. A customer standing near me watching this remarked, "he isn't getting much use out of those skis is he?" I asked him what he meant and he said, "well he hardly ever has them in the snow." I had to agree with that as most of the way down the lift line Mike was in the air. This picture was from a jump we built along side of the house lift just above Skytop Lodge. Snow was wet and heavy and we were bored with the area (Skytop ski area was tiny; just three T-bars lifts).
